"A player that cannot be tested is a player that cannot be trusted."
It is important to test your players in practice and in the big games. The best will always rise to the top and will manage the pressure of the big game situations. Every player wants to be noticed, but not every player wants to be watched. If the player has been raised on "nice try" expectations and standards they will shrink under the demands of the toughest games. And these players will get you beat. Coaches must be on the look out for these players. We are looking for players who thrive in hostile environments and who are comfortable being unconfortable. Do not compromise on this. An entire season will come crashing to an end if the wrong players are on the field at the wrong time. And the players you do trust will never forgive you for this...
